Far Noise ...
Flavie Cournil's work is anything but ... noisy rustling
at most:
soft materials in the light, curved lines,
No splinters, no sharp edges.
Nothing shines, nothing cut.
fuse the wax slowly into the fabric of the paper,
glass becomes opaque as if the light was hidden inside,
The pigment falls asleep in the lime.
There is no assertion: it is as if the sharp edges was soothed by the lack of detail.
Cournil Flavie's work is not built on the invention of very complicated devices. It feels that the materials are embodied in the most natural way possible.
is precisely the simplicity of the process that the grace of this work.
That tells us the artist?
What's on the mound that appears repeatedly in his work? What is it about? Is it our memory flush? There was a landfill? A funeral? A birth looming perhaps? Slow erosion and slow gestation?
That an artist who pushes us to ask ourselves asking our eyes soothed tiny clues, mysterious signs. Flavie Cournil opens up a quiet space and cozy up to us to take the time to stop there.
